TREE PLANTING IN KAMPALA

KAMPALA: A tree-planting project was conducted by Lions Club of Kampala Central (Uganda) at Lion's Leisure Park, Makerere University.

Eighteen Lion Members and 8 Leos were kept busy digging holes and planting seedlings at two different areas, fifty at Makerere University and 125 at Bulyankuyege.

The club has ear-marked Bulyankuyege a site for the club's signature project.

The club also conducted a project at Kamwokya where they launched a plastic waste management campaign in slum areas. It involved the lions and Leos in cleaning drainage channels and collection of plastic bottles and waste plastic matters for recycling and re-use.

The waste-collection-project was conducted in conjunction with a group of local women called Kawempe Home Based Caregivers Alliance. Twenty ladies came up and joined twelve Lions and 5 Leos in doing the work. Local leaders and a local plastic re-cycling company representatives also joined in the campaign.
