Tunis, Tunisia: Governors from Multiple District 411 were busy attending the All Africa Conference in Tunis, Tunisia from 6th to 8th February. Herein is one of the latest photographs which the Governor's Blog received.

The organizations which make things happen

The "World Immunization Week" will be observed from 24th to 30th April throughout the world and the District 411B, Tanzania and Uganda will also participate in the immunization campaign.

It is important to see how the Lions Clubs in both the countries  have accomplished in the fight against measles.

Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children. It is a safe and inexpensive vaccine which has been available for the past fifty years.

All Lion Members have been advised to participate in the immunization campaign so as to make this world a healthier place for children to live.

MEMBERSHIP STATISTICS GOES UP, UP AND UP

The statistics of members under District 411B (Tanzania & Uganda) is graphically  on the rise but the target of 1250 members is yet to be accomplished. According to the health assessment report flashed by Lions Clubs International, the figure of membership was 1154 by the end of December last year and by the end of January this year it increased  to 1164 under 42 clubs.

Copies of the health assessment report accompanied by an observation from the GMT District Coordinator, PDG Lion Abdul Majid Khan was distributed to Cabinet,  District Officers and club leaders. In his remarks, PDG Lion Khan has passionately urged all Lions leaders to close the exit doors so as to bring success to the Governor's aspirations to reach the required target by end of April this year.

Club leaders have been seriously urged to remit their international dues on or before 15th February and to explore all the possibilities of recruiting quality members, at least three new members per club. Uganda sector has accomplished the target of chartering two new clubs where as Tanzania has yet to hit the target of at least two new clubs as per the district goals set by the Governor.

One Lions club in Arua in Uganda was cancelled for failing to adhere to payment of international dues. Consequently the district lost 34 members. With a sad note, this club was" in red" which meant status quo for eight times within the period of two years.  Cabinet and District officers in Uganda have been urged to work collectively to revive the club within the next few weeks so as to alter the course of the sub district.

One encouraging remark by the GMT District Coordinator was that there was no club under status quo but the remittance of international dues has to be paid before the deadline, ie within the next seven days starting from today.

2nd CABINET MEETING: "A GREAT SUCCESS"

District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo called from Tunis, Tunisia and conveyed hearty congratulations to the members of the Preparatory Committee for scoring a great success of all the events including the Grand Banquet and the Second Cabinet Meeting.

He said,"the entire programme was a well articulated vision, performed with zeal and commitment with magnanimous effort." 

He said that he was thankful to all those who spent their valuable time and sources to showcase the hospitality of the Lions Fraternity Clubs in Dar es Salaam.

Immediately after the conclusion of all the tightly packed functions for three days continuously, the Governor and the Chief Guest, International Director Lion Alexis V. Gomes flew for Tunis, Tunisia to attend the 19th All Africa Conference. The International Director flew to Tunisia  via Paris.

ID Lion Gomes described the three-day programme "as good as a mini convention." The three-day programme included courtesy calls to His Worship the Mayor of Dar es Salaam City, to His Excellency the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Mizengo Kayanda P. Pinda, tour of CCBRT Hospital, Regency Health Centre.

The other great events were Second Cabinet Meeting, Leadership Training and the Grand Banquet in honour of the International Director. Time and again, the Chief Guest repeated words of praise to all the Lion Members and presented his friendship banners and lapel pins and other awards to deserving Lions.

Governor Wilson Ndesanjo said that a fellowship dinner will be a befitting gesture of appreciation to all the members of the Preparatory committee, as soon as he returns from abroad.

19TH ALL AFRICA CONFERENC TUNISIA

District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo flew to Tunis, Tunisia to attend the 19th All Africa Conference from 6th to 9th February

Two other senior Lions, MCC/ PDG Lion Polly Karimari Ndyarugahi and Lion Geofrey Mwesigwa who is holding the post of Region Chairperson in Uganda were also expected to fly from Entebbe to Tunisia for the conference. 

International Director Lion Alexis V. Gomes who was the Chief  Guest at the 2nd Cabinet Meeting and other events including a banquet in his honour, left Dar es Salaam for Paris on last Sunday night and then will fly  to Tunisia to attend the All Africa Conference.

On Friday 7th February there will be a seminar on Lions Quest which will be chaired by Past International Director Lion Dr. S.P. Amin from Nairobi. On the same day Lion Anna Thmpson Quaye and Lorry Sloate from GAVI Alliance will give a presentation on the importance of vaccines as part of the First Plenary Session during the afternoon hours.

The LCIF Chairperson, International Past President Wagne Maydden will recognize generous  donors during the LCIF Seminar on 8th Fdebruary.

INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR'S BANQUET

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: A colourful banquet in honour of the visiting International Director Alexis Vincent Gomes was held at the five-star Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam on Saturday (1st Feb) night and ended much beyond midnight hours. 

The almost six-hours banquet was loaded with enthralling acrobatic tricks by a local cultural troupe, long speeches by prominent people including the Chief Guest, presentation of personal friendship banners and lapel pins, presentation of awards to Lions Members with long service beginning with ten years to forty years, presentation of a special memento to the Chief Guest on behalf of seven lions Clubs in Dar es Salaam, delicious and spicey supper with oriental and occidental dishes crowned with many type of sweet dishes etc.

It turned out to be a night to remember when the main speech of the evening was delivered by the Chief Guest in his well-familiar tongue....French.  An interpreter with a good standard of English accent was around to make the director's speech laudable and enjoyable by all.

The director is on record to have promised his Listeners that he will re-visit Tanzania and make sure that he will talk in the National language of Tanzania...Kiswahili. In actual fact he began his speech by uttering a Kiswahili sentence "habari za jioni?" (meaning how are you this evening). The manner and style of uttering this short sentence, almost in an aristocratic manner, captured the audience attention throughout his speech.

Before the Chief Guest came to the podium, the Past District Governor Lion Abdul Majid Khan introduced him as an illustrious and leader with charismatic attitude. He managed to justify the introduction of the Chief Guest with chosen words at the right places mainly because, as he said, is a prominent lawyer in his country!

The District Governor, Lion Ndesanjo was thrilled with the 100% attendance and the situation demanded a few seats more for more guests. He was overwhelmed to see that sixteen men and women were sworn in as New Lion Members, thus increasing the number of total membership in District 411B.

One prominent senior Lion on the high table, PDG/PMCC Hon. Lion Shem Bageine also addressed the audience by emphasizing the fact that Africa needs to have its own Constitutional Area and hence chart its own course of serving humanity. Hon Shem Bageine is a Cabinet Minister in the Uganda Government and is in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs. He was accompanied by his spouse Lion Elianor Bageine who is a Region Chairperson in Uganda and was instrumental in chartering recently two  new clubs there.

The enthralling performance of  the Culture Troupe which kept the audience spellbound for almost forty minutes.
