GOVERNOR'S ADVICE FOR OCTOBER ACTIVITIES

Dar es Salaam: The following is an important list of activities recommended by District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo for the month of October. Top on the list is October World Service Week, the week dedicated by more than 1,355,824 in serving people throughout the world.

* Implement October World Service Week with community involvement in mind.
* Select entries for Peace Poster Contest, as the deadline is 15th November 2013.
* Observe the World Sight Day on 14th October 2013 by carrying out sight related activities.
* Involve Zone Chairpersons and respective District Officers for orientation and induction of  of new members.
*Organize collection of children's clothes and toys for presentation during Eid Al Haj festivals and Christmas in December.

Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo has drawn attention of all club secretaries and presidents to be punctual in remembering to send their activities reports to the respective sources. During the month of September some clubs have failed to obey the rules of the District Contest and this anomaly has been taken into account.

He also pointed out that according to the records, as at end of September, the District 411B had a total membership of 1093 members only and closing balance was 1095. New members inducted and enrolled officially at Lions Clubs International were 14 but dropped members, due to one reason or the other, were 12. Hence, the plus point appeared to be only 2 members.

The Governor has strongly advised Club Presidents and Secretaries to ensure that the back-door for exit must be shut down. And in addition to that recently during his club visitations to Uganda, 27 new members were inducted and the details and remittance of dues to the international must be immediately sent. Similarly, he inducted 12 new members during the Governor's Banquet in Dar es Salaam and these details of new members must also be dispatched to the LCI immediately.
District Governor Lion Willy Ndesanjo points out on page 17 of his Hand Book and refers to October Activities Plan and calls on Club Presidents and Secretaries to follow up the instructions.

"SET AND SCORE GOALS," GOVERNOR

DAR ES SALAAM: Governor lion Wilson Ndesanjo advised the Lions to set their goals and make the  goals happen. The advice was given by him at the banquet in his honour organized jointly by seven Dar es Salaam based Lions Clubs at the Boodles Restaurant, Harbour View JM Mall.

He quoted a popular saying: "Some people make things happen. Some watch things happening and others wonder what happened?". He therefore advised and emphasized that Lions must work as a team and thereby can achieve a lot since they are bound together with a common goal.

The Governor's theme during his reign of one year is "Unity In Service" applicable to the growing number of Lions in Sub District 411B (Tanzania-Uganda). Over the last three months or so, he has been advocating his theme which he expects will create more members, membership satisfaction, rekindle new enthusiasm and attain growth in members to stand firmly on its two feet.

During his extempore speech, he reminded the Lions of his two main goals, namely to increase membership with net retention and concentrate on care for community service. The target, he emphasized was to look for not less than 200 Quality Members.

At the colourful banquet on Saturday night, twelve new members were inducted by him and witnessed by over one hundred members and invited guests. They were presented with the pins and membership certificates and eventually accepted into the "Lions' Den" with the traditional thunderous Lion's roarrrrrr, typical of the jungle king.

The Fraternity Dar es Salaam clubs presented the Governor with a large hand-painted-canvass of Lion's bust, unfurled by the First Lady of the district, Florense. The Master of Ceremony Lion Talib Yusufali well described the presentation as "a lion to the Lion".

The Governor's Banquet was presided by Region Chairman Lion Happiness Nkya who also welcomed all the participants, including the newly oriented Lion members. Delicious buffet was seemingly enjoyed by all, especially on the top floor of the JM Mall, overlooking the "harbour of peace" along the busy commercial Samora Avenue decorated with glittering colourful lights (at hot spots).

The live oriental music had every reason to echo beyond the shortest hour of the night or call it the first hour of Sunday the 22nd September.

SECONDARY EDUCATION FOR DEAF & DUMB PUPILS

MOSHI, TANZANIA: Secondary Education -an ambitious project to educate the deaf and dumb pupils at Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, is now in the pipeline. The school is long term project of Lions Club of Moshi Kibo.

The Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre is considered as a model of good education for the disabled boys and girls ever since it was formed over two decades ago. Msandaka has set-up an un-interrupted record of four years of 100% passes in final examinations of Standard Seven. LIONS CABINET MEETING: KAMPALA

KAMPALA: The marathon chain of events of Lions clubs District 411B held in Kampala, Uganda on Saturday 7th September kept almost everybody busy for not less than fifteen hours at a stretch.

And as the famous English Saying goes: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Indeed, the day's hard work and the tiredness disappeared after a colourful banquet with a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

The first event of the day was a leadership seminar opened by District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo. A total of 56 Lions who included Cabinet and District Officers and high ranking officers from various clubs attended the session. Common remarks were that the seminar was very useful, both to the veteran lions and new leaders.

Reports from the Governor, Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Treasurer, Zone  and Region Chairpersons were put in front of the delegates which went through with approval. The meeting went beyond the sunset time  when the Governor adjourned the meeting, giving just less than an hour for the delegate to pack-up and prepare for the next session....banquet!

Earlier, the Governors of Sub District 411B attended the Governor's Council meeting under the Chairmanship of Multiple Council Chairman Lion PDG Poly Karimari Ndyarugahi. The meeting was supposed to be chaired by PDG Lion Satish Sharma (Chairman of the council) but due to ill-health reasons, his flight booking from Arusha to Entebbe was cancelled.

TRUE....BUT FRIGHTENING!

Name: John Kansiime. Age 7 years old. Have a close look at this innocent handsome school boy fighting a lonely battle of his defective health condition.....his urine bladder hanging outside his body! Continue reading the story, he needs your help.

KABALE, UGANDA: The urine bladder of John Kansiime (7) was naturally placed outside of his abdomen since he was born and the innocent-looking  boy is facing the situation bravely but he certainly needs help.

The parents of this boy are simple peasants in Kabale District, Uganda and by quick assessment they cannot afford to take him to the hospital for surgical treatment. This is where Lions Club of Kabale has stepped in and decided to help the distressed young boy. The clubs has embarked on the quick fund-raising campaign and are looking for the initial funding of UShs. 12,000,000/=.

According to the Secretary of the club Lion John Lemuwemba, the boy may have to undergo at least three to four surgical procedures and the initial financial involvement is at least UShs. 12,000,000/=. The medical term of this physical defect is “Bladder Exstrophy” which means the urine bladder is outside of his abdomen, a condition which is of high risk of infection and a great deal of inconvenience to him.

“The situation is more frightening if the boy continues to live with this defect when he turns into an adolescent age,” the Secretary said. He attends primary school like any child but his life is pathetic and not at all like other children. He is at a high risk of infection but the brave boy is putting up the fight with the little help of his equally brave parents. The question is for how long?

The boy and his parents have been assured that they are not alone in this difficult situation. The Secretary, on behalf of Lions Club of Kabale, has sincerely and strongly appealed to other Lions Clubs, intended donors and well-wishers to come forward and help the boy.

“Human suffering in any form is very distressing. Let us unite with “Unity In Service” to give preference to the immediate needs of the communities around us,”  so said the District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo in his goals for the Lionistic Year 2013/2014 published in his Hand Book.
