“Tremendous support and commitment”……these are the words uttered by now Immediate  Past District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo for Lions and their clubs in Tanzania and Uganda during his 365 days tenure in office  as District Governor

In his email letter addressed to Lions with a copy to this Blog, the Past Governor  stated emotionally that he would always cherish the good time and camaraderie that he  had shared together with all the Lions in Tanzania and Uganda in particular and all other Lions in Eastern Africa.

“The clock never stopped ticking ever since I became District Governor in July 2013. I am extremely grateful to all for the un-wavering commitment to our communities as well as our association,” Lion Ndesanjo stated. He and his Spouse Florence  accompanied the District Governor Lion Night Ndyarugahi to the 97th Lions International Conventionin Toronto, Canada where she was ceremoniously installed along with other Governors Elect as District Governor.

Apart from carrying the permanent status of PDG, this year he will also execute his duties as a District Convenor for Retention and Orientation. This faculty is almost linked to Membership Development in which PDG/PMCC Lion Abdul Majid Khan will be acting as a District Officer. Both the faculties are sensitive and carry a lot of meaning to Sub District 411B which has been struggling to reach or pass the required minimum total membership of 1250. 

PDG Lion Wilson Ndesanjo and Lady Florence arrived in Dar es Salaam on Thursday 10th July.

LIONS "TOP BRASS" IN CANADA

Toronto, Canada: The "top brass" of Lions in Sub District 411B have already arrived in Toronto, Canada to participate in the Lions Clubs International Convention - 2014 Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

District Governor Elect Lion Night Ndyarugahi, the first female Governor in Uganda-Tanzania, is currently busy attending seminars which will brush up knowledge of Lionism and other matters of almost 800 other Governors Elect before being installed as Governors for their respective areas. 

Past District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo and his Spouse, Lady Florence along with Cabinet treasurer Lion Sedrace Rwekikiga, District Chairperson (Uganda) Lion Irene Jane Twinomujuni are among people who have accompanied the incoming Governor.

At the convention, one gets a big opportunity to make new friends and old friends. PDG Lion Wilson Ndesanjo met Past International Director Jagdish Sondhi who is on record to be first International Director from District 411 (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Seychelles). He also met PID Lion Dr. S.P. Amin from Kenya.

DONATIONS FOR LIONS QUEST PROGRAMME IN TANZANIA

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Lions Quest Programme in Tanzania which has launched an educational programme to discourage misuse of drugs, intoxicants, smoking among youths has been injected a total donation of US $ 9010:00 or approximately TShs. 15,000,000/=

according to the Coordinator of  the project, Past Governor and Past Multiple Council Chairperson Lion Abdul Majid Khan has revealed.

With this healthy donation a matching grant has been applied for from Lions Clubs International Fund. As soon as the funds swell, more workshops for teachers (30 teachers plus six trainers and organizers per workshop) will be organized country-wide.

The project recently accomplished well nine workshops at Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Tanga, Moshi, Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma and Bagamoyo. In some up-country towns, due to high demand of such workshops, the organizers had to repeat the three-day workshops. Lions Quest Programme is an International Project and it is on record to have helped more than 15,000,000 youths in 85 countries including Tanzania and Uganda.

The major share of donation of US $ 4,850:00 or TShs. 8,200,000/= came from one of Tanzania's top Philanthropist and top level businessman, Dr. Reginald A. Mengi. The Donor has been very close to Lions Clubs in Tanzania and Uganda and has provided numerous assistance to help people in distress. Other Donors included Lion Mushtaq Waliji; Lion Mohammed Mulla; Lion Dr. T.  Jafferji; the Red Onion Restaurant; Lion Abdul Majid Khan; Lions clubs of Mwanza and Dar es Salaam.
Past Governor and Past Multiple Council Chairperson Lion Abdul Majid Khan who is the main hinge between Lions Quest Programme in Tanzania and Lions Clubs International has deeply appreciated Donors who have helped the project in conducting teachers' workshops in the country. He said: " more finance means more muscles to perform even better".

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The second most read story was about the presentation of Gold Medal from Lions Clubs International to a leading Philanthropist and high level businessman, Dr. Reginald A. Mengi. Presentation on behalf of International President Barry J. Palmer was done by the then District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo (on the left).
The story about Saidi Ngwaje suffering from abnormal growth of flesh, a disease called Neurofibromatosis attracted largest number of Pageviewers within a short time. A popular leading ITV Channel also carried the story recently and the person might go to India for a surgical treatment.


16,000  PAGEVIEWERS OF GOVERNOR’S BLOG

The District Governor’s Blog surpassed its intended target of more than 16,000 Pageviewers, recording Tanzania as number one country reading the blog out of top ten countries.

The Governor’s Blog which was created and named after District Governor Lion Wilson Nathaniel Ndesanjo immediately after he was installed as District Governor at Hamburg in Germany last year, truly became an international media. Readers began taking interest in the Blog in United States, United Kingdom, Uganda, Germany etc.

Lion Wilson Ndesanjo and his Spouse, also a Lion, Lady Florence are expected to depart for Canada in  Toronto along with other Lion Members from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Seychelles. Lion Wilson Ndesanjo will now be  addressed as Past District Governor or PDG,  which will be a prefix before his name and MJF after his name.

One of the eleven major goals set-up by the PDG during his tenure as Governor was to do as much publicity about Lionism as possible. Apart from Facebook, Twitter, District Bulletins and Club Newsletters, the Governor’s Blog took the lead in propagating  events and news about Lionism in Tanzania and Uganda. 

More than 335 news stories including pictures were displayed in the Blog throughout the last twelve months. The IT & Bulletin Committee which was involved in the Governor’s Blog comprised Lion Salim Suleimanji (Convenor); Lion Valeria Mwesigwa (Uganda) and Lion Abdul Hai (Tanzania) who was also the Blogger and Editor of the publicity media. Lion Abdul Hai was awarded a trophy by the Governor Lion Ndesanjo and a Certificate of Appreciation from International President Barry J. Palmer.

The latest  top ten viewers (country-wise) in descending order were Tanzania, United States, Uganda, United Kingdom, Germany, Ukraine, India, Kenya, Russia and the Netherlands.

Breaking News: According to statistics, a big majority of Viewers took deep interest, repeatedly on the story of Saidi Ngwaje who is suffering from abnormal growth of flesh on his forehead and hanging below his neck. The disease is known as Neurofibromatosis (NFI). He is married with two small children and resides at Zinga, a small town halfway between Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo. A few weeks ago he was interviewed in a popular TV Channel ITV and it appeared he may go to India for surgical treatment. Much would depend on the donations from the public.

NEW LEADERS FOR THREE MWANZA CLUBS

A pride of Lions, taking a nap in the hot afternoon in Serengeti National Park. It is rare to see Lions taking pictures of Lions! The photographer was none other than the Governor Lion Ndesanjo.
Mwanza, Tanzania: Top leaders and members of the board of directors for three clubs in the lake-side commercial town of  Mwanza in Tanzania were installed by District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo recently.

Accompanied by First Lady of the Sub District, Florence Ndesanjo, the Governor installed new leaders in Lions Club of Mwanza, Lions Clubs of Mwanza Valentine and Lions Club of Victoria.

The colourful ceremonies were well attended by almost all the top district officers at Mwanza. Lions Club of Mwanza, the oldest club with top quality leaders managed  to bring in three Lions who will be awarded Melvin Jones plaque at a separate function in the very near future.

The three prominent Lions whose MJF Plaque has already arrived in the Governor,s Office are: Lion Paul R. Sweya; Lion Pastor J. Massota and Lion James S. Salu.

Immediately after the installation ceremony, the delegation of the Governor along with some Senior Lion Members visited the Serengeti National Park, an excursion trip of two days. Some of the wildlife pictures were taken by the Governor.


AZANIA ENTERS WITH ENERGETIC FORCE!

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Azania enters the Lionistic Year 2014/2015 with new faces as club leaders, three new Lion Members and one Melvin Jones Fellow. District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo who attended the almost-hour programme along with the First Lady Florense was also the Installation Officer.

The club appears to have a list of highly qualified professionals such as the outgoing President Lion Architect Yassin Mringo who ushered in the new President Lion Dr. (Gynaecologist) Msemo. The board of directors comprises fourteen members including the back-bone of the club, a practicing  Attorney in the High Court Lion Jessie Mnguto who conducted the ceremony as MC.

The Governor spoke highly about the club's  performance throughout the Lionistic Year 2013/2014 which ends on 30th  June. In the begining of the year, the club's target was to bring in four new members and one Melvin Jones Fellow which was also the Governor's main District Goal. The club fulfilled their promise, much to the delight of the Governor.

The Crystal Room in the New Africa Hotel was buzzing with activities such as American  auction sale of a sophisticated kettle, raffle draw for three winners, live discotheque, cash donation of TShs. 100,000/= by DO Lion Rizwan Qadri, one hundred books for preventing youths falling into bad habits (Lions Quest Books).

The club presented a large-size wall-hanging prayers quotation piece to the Governor and a pair of African kitenge cloth to the First Lady of the District, Florense Ndesanjo.

More Information: District Governor for Sub District 411B Lion Wilson Ndesanjo will accomplish his tenure in office end of June and will officially hand-over the Governor's Chain and his authoritative office to incoming Governor Elect Lion Night Ndyarugahi. A large delegation of Lions from District 411 are expected to leave for Canada in the coming week where the International Annual Convention will be held. The incoming Governor along with about 800 others will be officially  installed as District Governors in their respective areas of operation.
Come July and this heavy authoritative chain of identification which was worn by eleven other Governors of Sub District 411B during their respective tenure in office, will be officially handed over to the incoming Governor Lion Night Ndyarugahi.Governor Wilson Ndesanjo is expected to leave for Canada early July to attend the annual international convention.

WATER SUPPLY RESTORED

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Water supply at two primary schools in Dar es Salaam was again restored by Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima with much appreciation from the schools' administrative authorities.

The bore-wells which were technically obstructed, were flushed by "water experts" at both the sites and once again the 620 students at Mseto Primary School and 1367 students at the Airwing Primary School enjoyed the free availability of clean water. The incoming President of Mzizima Lions Club, Lion Mushtaq Waliji along with other Lions were present at the "water restoration project".

The Lion behind this Quality Project, Jayesh Raichura who contributed the "lion share" of the project looked much happier at the accomplished mission. The Secretary of the club, Lion Bhavin Sonigra reported that a total of TShs. 360,000/=  was donated by Lion Raichura.

Bore-well water was finally restored at Msimbazi Mseto Primary School in Dar es Salaam with efforts of  Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima. The main person behind this quality project, Lion Jayesh Raichura looks much satisfied at the water gushing out of the well.

NEW APPOINTMENTS

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Two senior Lions PDG/PMCC Lion Abdul majid Khan and District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo have been appointed in key positions to manage the Measles and Rubella Vaccination campaign in Tanzania with immediate effect.

The new appointments have been made by the Assistant Manager of Humanitarian Projects at the Lions Clubs International Headquarters, Benjamin Futransky.

Lion Abdul Majid Khan has been appointed as Project Coordinator and Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo as Grant Administrator of the Measles & Rubella Initiative Programme for Sub District 411B in Tanzania. 

The Project Coordinator has taken immediate action by appointing 1st Vice District Governor Lion Haiderali Gangji as Project Convenor and a Task Force of 70 members who will be involved in the nationa-wide campaign for advocacy and social mobilisation of vaccination campaign of Measles and Rubella in Tanzania from 24th to 30th September.

The vaccination to be carried out by the Ministry of Health of Tanzania will offer free services to almost twenty million children under the age of six in 130 plus districts of the country.

Lions will help to eliminate measles and rubella disease, with partnership of GAVI Alliance and leading partners the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the \United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID).

More information: Ten preparatory meetings and follow-up actions will be held every Tuesday by the officials of Ministry of Health and Lions Delegation. The last meeting to decide this action programme was held on June 17th at the Muhimbili Medical Hospital where a department of the Ministry is located.

MSANDAKA ARE SOCCER CHAMPS

Moshi, Tanzania: The special school for disabled pupils, Msandaka Lions Deaf School, has surprised everyone in Kilimanjaro Region by becoming the Regional Soccer Champions in the Primary School Sports Competitions.

The Msandaka Football Team has thus qualified as Zonal Champions, ready to compete in soccer competitions for regional champions in Dar es Salaam.

Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre has more than sixty boys and girls who have been receiving special educational attention by qualified teachers. Despite a set-back of disability, Msandaka has come up with the best results in the last primary school annual examinations. 

Through the efforts of founding fathers, Lions Club of Moshi Kibo, the school has been recognized not only at regional level but at international level. Through the efforts of Lions Club of Ijsedal Tervuren, from Belgium, material and financial aid uplifted the school's image. The pupils capability of learning and playing with the specially made computer programmes has earned them a good name among the local schools.

And now with the recent achievement of becoming regional soccer champions for primary schools has catapulted their name even much higher.

Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre, the Regional Champs of Primary Schools in Kilimanjaro Region will now compete in the National Soccer Championship for Primary Schools in Dar es Salaam.

THREE NEW PRESIDENTS

NEW LEADERSHIP FOR THREE CLUBS

Kampala, Uganda: Three prominent Lions Clubs in Kampala, Uganda got new leadership for the Fiscal Lionistic Year 2014/2015. All the leaders were dully installed by PMCC/PDG Hon. Lion Shem Bageine, a Cabinet Minister for East African Affairs in the Government of Uganda.

The clubs with new members of Board of Directors were Lions Clubs of Kampala Central, Lions Club of Kampala City and Lions Club of Kampala Host. It appears that ladies are taking key positions in the coming fiscal year judging by a quick opinion that two of the three new Presidents installed were ladies. 


District 411B (Uganda-Tanzania) will be spearheaded by District Governor Elect Lion Night Ndyarugahi who has set a new record by being the first lady to take-up the post of the Governor in the eleven years history of this sub district. 

The three Presidents who were installed were President Lion Jonathan of Lions Club of Kampala Central; President Lion Margeret Wamweta of Lions Club of Kampala City and President Lion Deepa Verma of Lions Club of Kampala Host. According to the statistics, L.C. of Kampala Central is the biggest club with more than 110 members in Multiple District 411 (Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and the Seychelles). 

The charter nite and installation ceremony of the three clubs was attended by a large number of members and their families. The top leaders included PDG/MCC Lion Polly K. Ndyarugahi, Districty Governor Elect Lion Night Ndyarugahi and Region Chairperson Lion Eleanor Bageine and many others.

PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR BANK GOVERNOR

Kampala, Uganda: The Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire was awarded a medal "The Order of Lion Award" by the International President of Lions Clubs International, Barry J. Palmer yesterday (Friday). The appreciation award which is a recognition of the Recepient's outstanding assistance to the Lions of Uganda was presented by District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo.

The Governor of the Bank of Uganda has been conferred the medal for assisting Lions Clubs in their projects to serve the less privileged class of people in Uganda. Prof. Emmanuel T. Mutebire is described to have a "Lion Heart" and is among the front line Philanthropist who is always willing to help the needy and disabled people through service organizations such as the Lions Clubs.

The District Governor's delegation which accompanied him were five senior Lions and they were Multiple Council Chairperson, Lion Polly K. Ndyarugahi; District Governor Elect Lion Night Ndyarugahi; Regional Chairman Geoffrey Mwesigwa; Regional Chairperson Eleanor Bageine and District Officer Sedrace Rwekikiga.

FOOTBALLS FOR THE FUTURE SOCCER STARS!

Bagamoyo, Tanzania: Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima held the club's Installation Ceremony of new office-bearers for the Lionistic Year 2014/2015 under Installing Officer, 1st Vice District Governor Lion Hayderali Gangji at Bagamoyo, 65 kms away from Dar es Salaam.

The club carried out a project on the second day, just before the entire big team of not less than seventy members left Bagamoyo for Dar es Salaam. The photographs were supplied by the club Secretary Lion Bhavin Sonigra and the information in the story below supplied by the same club Secretary.

LIONS GIVE FOOTBALLS

Soccer-lovers throughout the world are focusing their attention on the 20th FIFA World Cup competitions in Brazil. Keeping up with the pace of people’s interest, Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima donated footballs costing TShs. 500,000/= (US$ 300:00) in Bagamoyo, Tanzania.

The good quality thirty foot balls donated by a Lion Member of the club, Jayesh Raichura was part of the donated items costing a Total of TShs. 1,600,000/= ( approximately US$1000:00) to Baobab Home for children and Nguvu Mpya women’s group. The items raised through club and voluntary donations, included biscuit boxes, choclates, canned variety of juice, milk packets, solar torch, stationary for school pupils and playing foot balls for 120 under privileged children and football teams.

One Sheazina Kitwana who  has been suffering from  psychic problems for almost a decade, will now get an opportunity to get full psychiatric attention at a hospital in Dodoma. Mzizima Club and Sai Gerard Stores 2013 Ltd jointly donated cash Shs. 500,000/= for this purpose.

Lions Club of Mzizima had a day earlier conducted a ceremony to install new leadership of the club for the Lion’s Fiscal Year 2014/2015. The contingent of the club numbering almost 70 members who included families of the Lion Members were received by Counsellor of Magomeni (Bagamoyo) Mwanaharusi Jarufu and the Director of the Baobab Home Teresa Place popularly called “Terry”.

Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima has been rated as the Best Club in District 411B ie: among 43 clubs  in Tanzania and Uganda by District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo.

Nutshell information: Bagamoyo, located 35 kms south of Zanzibar and 65 kms north of Dar es Salaam is an ancient historical town on the coast of Tanzania. Under German colonialism, it was the first Capital under ” Deutch Ostafrica” and sometimes during the 9th Century the  slave and ivory export port was better known as “Bwagamoyo” meaning  “abandon your heart” mainly referring to the disheartened Africans for sale. Today Bagamoyo is a fast growing town and attracts tourists to see or study the historical town and visit Saadani National Park, the only wild game park bordering with the Indian Ocean coast.
