GOVERNOR'S CLUB VISITATIONS IN UGANDA

Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo has successfully completed visitations of all the Lions Clubs and Leo Clubs in Uganda and a quick assessment indicates that the Governor's District Goals and that of the International President Barry Palmer are being well followed and implemented.

The Uganda sector of Sub District 411B has a strength of 21 clubs and several Leo Clubs which are being involved time-and-again in projects either conducted by the sponsoring clubs or sometimes on their own.The top leadership of the sub district and the Governor himself have been working on increasing more quality members and at least opening of four new clubs this Lionistic Year.

Since the Lionistic Year started in July this year, 93 new members were recorded but the impressive number sizzled down to net gain of only 17 members due to the fact that 67 Lions left their clubs due one reason or the other. All along emphasis has been on "closing the exit door" except for logical reasons.

The Sub District 411B has been short of the required minimum number of 1250 members so as to be recognized and keep afloat as a sub district.

The District Governor's entourage was well impressed to install 12 new members to the existing 78 active Lions of Lions Club of Kampala Central. This is the biggest and most active club of 90 members in East Africa. The target is to have another ten more Quality Members and also to open a branch club this year.

Uganda Sector has already fulfilled the Governor's dream of forming two new clubs during his term of reign as Governor.

The Governor is now in Dar es Salaam for another three weeks or so and will embark on club visitations programme in Tanzania begining with the first lap in northern Tanzania. The first lap will begin on 21st November and it will be a visit to Lions Club of Kilimanjaro, the first club where the Governor began his Lionistic career and the Kilimanjaro Region being his original birth area. After visiting some clubs in Moshi and Arusha he will drive to Tanga, a coastal historic town where he will see the activities of the Tanga Club.

Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo planting a tree as a campaign to make Uganda look even more greener than now. He was Chief Guest of Lions Club of Kampala Central, the biggest club in East Africa with 90 active members and planning to hit the target of 100 Quality Members and a branch club.

SAIDI NGAWAJE NEEDS HELP!

The sad story of Saidi Ngawaje (28) who is suffering from a disease suspected to be Neurofibromatosis, a heriditary disease which may occur in about one in 3,000 births. It is a genetic disorder that affects the bone, skin and nervous system.
"Please, can you help me. I want to look like a normal person like I was many years ago."  Saidi Ngawaje told the Blogger of this Blog, Abdul Hai.

Twenty eight years old Saidi Ngawaje as he exactly appears, said to be suffering from Type One Neurofibromatosis disease which is a heriditary disease.
DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA: Saidi Ngawaje (28) was a normal looking young man about ten years ago but he now looks exactly like the picture shows. According to first assessment of medical doctors, he appears to be suffering from a disease medically known as Neurofibromatosis (NF1).

The disease is a genetic disorder that affects the bone, skin and nervous system. It is said to be a serious condition affecting the nerve cells and its growth. It is said that normally there is no cure for NF but if the growth becomes large and painful, it can be cut to reduce the risk of malignancy and other complications.

I accidentally met him on Saturday afternoon in a small remote village north of Dar es Salaam. His physical condition and the face-to-face interview aroused in me the Lionism Instinct that he needed help. As a matter of fact his sad life history was indeed a tragedy.

He seems to be peniless, father of two children and his wedded wife is reported to be keeping away from him due to his physical condition.

The first report of Saidi Ngawaje has already reached lions Club of Dar es Salaam Amani and the club has embarked on how to help him. Quick estimation of his medical bills starting from undergoing MRI scan, x-ray and CT scan for getting a clear picture of the disease and may be surgery will roughly cost US$1500. However, this all depends in which hospital and in which country he may be referred to for further management.

Saidi is the fourth child in the family of five (three girls and 2 boys). His children are five years old boy and three years old girl. At the present moment he is staying in his cousin's house, a simple looking house typical in the coastal areas.

One concern is that such people need not be kept in isolation although due to the nature of the disease, feeble minded patients may keep themselves aloof or withdraw from society.

Good Samaritans who may volunteer to help him should get in touch with the Club Secretary of Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Amani, Lion Shofiuddin Babul who is also a PRO of District 411B (Tanzania-Uganda). His email address is siam37@hotmail.com and his contact telephone is +255713603117.

YUMBE LIONS HOLD TRAINING WORKSHOP

YUMBE, UGANDA:  A three-day Teachers Training Workshop for secondary schools in Yumbe, Uganda was held by Lions Club of Yumbe as part of the on-going Lions Quest Programme in Uganda.

Thirty teachers from five secondary schools attended the three-day sessions conducted by certified trainers Lion Allen Tush Naturinda assisted by Lion Israel Manzi at the West Nile Hotel.

At the workshop, teachers received six hundred books to kick-start the programme in schools. Lions Quest programme is an international campaign against harmful intoxicants such as drugs, smoking and other evil motives which jeopardize the lives of  young people. The actual campaign  started way back since 1975 and Lions Clubs International bought this programme and started implementing afresh since September 2002.

In the present social habits, young people especially school going youths are exposed to a greater risk of drug abuse and violence. The habits of smoking, tobacco chewing and consumption of alcohol seems to be on the increase. The Lions Quest Skills for adolescence programme responds to the needs of children between the ages of 10 to 18.

The programme has two main compliments: * Helping to develop positive social behaviors such as self discipline, responsibility, good judgement and ability to get along with others. * Helping the young people to develop positive commitment to their families including a promise to lead healthy drug-free lives.
