RABBITS FOR THE STUDENTS!

Kabale, Uganda: Pairs of rabbits were donated to the students of St. Maria Teresa School by Lions Club of Kabale as a project to encourage modern livestock keeping.

A team of Lions led by club President Lion Alex Baguma visited the school, carrying with them some pairs of well-looked-after rabbits. The purpose of giving them rabbits was to encourage modern livestock keeping and also for human consumption.

President Lion Baguma advised the students to be serious in their day-to-day studies as the nation of Uganda expected the youths to be among leaders and professional workers when they grew up. 

St. Maria Teresa School was among the institutions in Uganda which was well supported by Lions of Lions Club of Budneught from Germany.

Cabinet Secretary Lion Kishore Simzia congratulated members of Lions Club of Kabale on behalf of District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo who was out of Tanzania for a few days.

STANDING OVATION FOR DR. MENGI & LCI

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: One of the top most leading businessman in Tanzania, Dr. Reginald Abraham Mengi received a continuous  standing ovation   when he was bestowed with a Gold Medal in recognition of his humanitarian services. The prestigious Gold Medal in his name and a Lion Lapel pin was sent by International President Lion Barry Palmer from Lions Clubs International.

The grand presentation ceremony was spearheaded by District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo at the Gala Banquet at Hotel Serena. The Governor also presented his personal friendship banner on behalf of Sub District 411B comprising Tanzania and Uganda. A lapel pin also from International President was presented to the great philanthropist Dr. Mengi by Past District Governor and a veteran Lion Abdul Majid Khan.

Dr. Reginald Mengi was overwhelmed by the awards bestowed on him and admitted frankly that he could not find suitable words to appreciate the recognition and presentations. However, as a gesture for reciprocation, he requested the fully-packed hall to be up-standing  for a minute or so, so  as to appreciate the good works being done by this great organization.

He said:  “As a matter of fact, I learnt about serving humanity through Lions’ organization.” He appeared to be very frank when he narrated his life history by admitting that he came from a poor back-ground  and learnt to shape-up his business career  through the hard way. The attentive audience heard him saying that  what ever wealth he achieved through his business, he liked to share with the less fortunate people.

Time and again, speakers after speakers praised the unselfish benevolent Dr. Reginald Mengi for donating lavishly to the Lions Clubs so that they in turn served the people. Some glaring examples were donating millions of Tanzania Shillings for treatment of children with serious heart problems in Tanzania and Uganda.

A lengthy bio-data of the Chief Guest was spoken by PDG Lion Abdul Majid Khan and the Sub Treasurer of district Lion Yusuf Dalal talked about the achievements and main projects undertaken by Lions Clubs in Tanzania since the last fifty years.

The Region Chairperson Lion Happiness Nkya delivered a “thank you” note to the Chief Guest Dr. Mengi, the team of Lions which organized the function and all Lion Members and invited guests who attended the ceremony at the Hotel Serena.

Another appreciation presentation (friendship banner & lapel pins) was also made by Governor Wilson Ndesanjo on behalf of International Director Lion Alexis Vincent Gomes to District Officer Lion Zahira Patwa, District Officer Lion Shoffiudin Babul and IT & Bulletin Chairman for Tanzania, Lion Abdul Hai.

Mwanza, Tanzania: During club visitations programme in Mwanza, District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo paid a courtesy call on Mwanza Regional Commissioner Hon. Engineer Ernest Ndikilo and discussed mainly about Lionism and service to the people.

The Governor was accompanied with First Lady Lion Florense, Region Chairperson Lion Jagdish Mehta, and  District Officer Burhan Mohamed among top Lion Leaders in Mwanza, the second biggest commercial town on the shores of Lake Victorya.

Topics of mutual interest, mainly about Lionism were discussed during the Governor's Courtesy Call on the Regional Commissioner Hon. Eng. Ernest Ndikilo in Mwanza. He was accompanied with senior Lion Members of Mwanza clubs.

REGINALD ABRAHAM MENGI TO BE AWARDED

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: The IPP Chairman Dr. Reginald Abraham Mengi will be officially awarded one of the highest awards =International Order Of The Lion= at a banquet in his honour on 4th March 2014 at the five-star Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam. By authority of Lions Clubs International, the International President Lion Barry Palmer has authorized District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo to conduct the presentation ceremony.

The gold medal with inscription of the Recepient's name and the prestigious certificate of recognition will be ceremoniously awarded to Dr. Reginald Abraham Mengi. 

The LCI has recognized dedication of Dr. Mengi on humanitarian grounds and for putting welfare of human beings in the forefront line. 

Some foreign Diplomats and senior Lion Members based in Dar es Salaam have been officially invited to attend the presentation ceremony at the  banquet.

8th MARCH INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

THE WORLD TO OBSERVE WOMEN’S DAY

Women and men throughout the world will observe International Women’s Day on Saturday 8^th March, the idea which travelled a long bumpy way for more than one hundred years.

The International Women’s Day originated from International Working Women’s Day many years ago and finally,  in 1977 the United Nations General Assembly invited U.N. Member States to proclaim March 8 as U.N. Day for Women’s Rights and World Peace.

It is generally observed that on this day people are reminded  to pay respect, appreciation and sincere love towards women. Many countries review women’s economic and  political rights and social achievements in their own prevailing scenario. The parameters may differ from country to country but the central idea is to ensure that women get equal opportunities as the men folk get.

Lions Clubs International has always been emphatic in promoting the idea of getting more women members in the clubs and in leadership positions. There are privileges and sometimes prerogatives in matters concerning  international dues for women spouses  joining the organization.  Families are also encouraged to join the clubs. By way of a quick estimation, out of nearly 1,400,000 Lion Members, 30% are women members in Lions Clubs International, considered to be the biggest service organization in the world.

More info: The Sub District 411B comprising Tanzania and Uganda has a total of 1160 Lion Members out of which,  women folks are only 250 Members. The First Vice District Governor of the sub district is Lion Night Ndyarugahi (from Uganda) who is likely to step in as next Governor in the Lionistic Year 2014/2015. She is spouse of Past District Governor and the current Multiple Council Chairperson Lion Polly Karimari Ndyarugahi.

A couple of years ago, an international women’s symposium was organized by Lion Members (women) in Dar es Salaam to observe the International Women’s Day. 

Just a reminder: The theme for IWD in 2012 was “Empower rural women, end poverty & hunger”. And last year (2013) the theme was “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end  violence against women”.

 The reminder is to re-awaken the political and social awareness of the struggles for women world-wide and are examined in a hopeful manner.

Mwanza, Tanzania: The first lap tour of lake-side Mwanza Lions Clubs  has just been accomplished and the District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo and First Lady Florense have arrived in Dar es Salaam via Kilimanjaro on Sunday.

The Governor witnessed the presentation of school desks as a project by Lions Club of Mwanza Victoria just before he flew to Moshi in Kilimanjaro region where he attended to his other business commitments.
