DEADLINE FOR REPORTS 15TH APRIL

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: The countdown for the forthcoming 11th Annual MD 411 Convention at Kisumu, Kenya, has started and with it preparations are in top gear.

Cabinet Secretary Lion Kishore Simzia has called on to all the Cabinet and District Officers to observe the deadline of 15th April as the last day for submitting their reports. This deadline will give the Cabinet secretary just a few days to compile a comprehensive report of the District Officers at the Third and last Cabinet meeting of Sub District 411B.

The Cabinet Secretary cautioned that failure to meet the deadline, the concerned District Officers will have to bring fifty copies of their reports to the Cabinet Meeting well ahead of the commencement time for distribution to the delegates. 

Cabinet Secretary Lion Kishore Simzia has set 15th April as deadline  for submitting reports from Cabinet and District Officers for presentation at the 3rd Cabinet Meeting in Kisumu, Kenya, venue of the 11th Annual MD 411 Convention.

The Governor's final report and that of the Cabinet Secretary's Cabinet Minutes and District Officers reports are very important at the 3rd Cabinet Meeting. This will reflect the almost twelve months of humanitarian services provided by 43 Lions Clubs in Tanzania and Uganda. Hence, reports will ultimately be considered as historical reference materials in the history of Sub District 411B.

GOVERNOR VISITS ARUSHA

Arusha, Tanzania: District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo and First Lady Florense visited all the 42 Lions Clubs in Tanzania and Uganda, the last visitation being in Arusha.

The Governor's entourage visited Mt. Meru Club in Arusha where a hectic programme was prepared by club leaders and district officers. The Governor met the Deputy Mayor of Arusha and held friendly and common issues of interest both for the Lions and in the interest of the country. 

The Governor participated in the distribution of food in the Eye Ward of St Elizabeth Health Centre and later at Plaster House where children are recuperating from corrective surgery. Sixty boys and girls are at the Plaster House, some undergoing plastic surgery due to burns and injuries. 

A grand banquet in honour of the Governor and his First Lady Florense was held later in the evening where the PDG/PMCC Lion Shem Bageine who is also a Minister for East African Affairs attended the banquet. The President of L.C. Moshi Kibo Julian Jones and PDG Himat Shah and several District Officers were also at the banquet.

Two new members were inducted by the Governor at the banquet.

KAMPALA CENTRAL SETS RECORD!

Kampala, Uganda: Twenty year old Lions Club of Kampala Central has set the new record by being the only club with the highest number of members "one hundred" in the Multiple District 411 composed of Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and the Seychelles.

Before  the end of this current Lionistic Year, very reliable sources indicate that ten more Quality Members are in the line ready for taking up membership of this largest and most active club in Sub District 411B.

Beaming with a big smile and satisfaction, District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo informed the Blog of the rising number of members in the Sub District 411B as 1,220  "as at today". He said that before we congregate at Kisumu, Kenya for the forthcoming annual multiple district convention, we need only thirty more new members to hit the 'bull's eye'.

The Governor pointed out that the ideal venue to beat the drum about getting more people to join the organization is on next Sunday, during the Global World Relay Lunch Day (GWRLD). The day is being observed with fellowship lunch organized by Lions  throughout the world.

In Dar es Salaam, Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Pwani has organized GWRLD on Sunday 6th April at the Himalaya Ridge where the District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo has been invited as the Chief Guest. 

Forty  young boys and girls from an Orphanage Centre and twenty blind young boys and girls will also participate.

The Club Secretary of Pwani Lion Rizwan Qadri said that more than sixty prominent Lions have been invited to participate in the fellowship lunch at the Himalaya Ridge on Sunday morning from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

ROUND TABLE MEETING

Delegations of the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare and Lions Clubs International discussing strategies for the forthcoming campaign of measles and rubella immunization week in Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: A round-table conference hosted by Ministry of Health & Social Welfare and attended by a delegation of Lions was held in Dar es Salaam to discuss Lions' participation in the forthcoming national immunization week of Measles and Rubella in Tanzania.

In a nutshell, the meeting discussed about Lions' participation in the immunization campaign in terms of advocacy, communication and social mobilisation. The country-wide immunization programme will take off from Wednesday 17th September to 23rd.

On international level, Lions Clubs International has partnered with GAVI Alliance, Bill & Melinda  Gates Foundation and the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID) in the international campaign against the dreadful killer disease of measles and rubella.

Info on the infection: Measles is a highly contagious viral illness characterised by fever, malaise, rash, cough, coryza and conjuctivitis. The virus is spread by coughing and sneezing, close personal contact or direct contact with infected nasal or throat secretions. the virus remains active and contagious in the air or on infected surfaces for up to two hours.

Measles outbreaks can result in epidemics that cause many deaths, especially among young malnourished children.

At the two-hour meeting, the coordinator of  the campaign from Lions Clubs, PDG Lion Abdul Majid Khan introduced all the Lions delegates and continued to give long history of how Lions Clubs International started and the various ways it helps the community. He said that the Lions Clubs were happy to see that their services would be required in the national campaign of immunization of Measels and Rubella in Tanzania.

The Manager of the campaign Dr. Dafrossa Lyimo explained in details the entire immunization campaign which will take place in the country in September this year. The regional micro plan workshop will be done in May 2014 to have more precise resources needs.

In general, the objectives of the integrated measles rubella campaign in Tanzania is to * immunize at least 95% of children aged 9 months to 15 years; * immunize at least 95% of children aged 0-59 months with tOPV (oral polio vaccine); * administer vitamin A supplement to 95% of children aged 6- 59 months; * administer de-worming tablets to 95% of children aged 12 to 59 months.

JESSIE BACK IN DAR AFTER MEDICAL TREATMENT

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Lion Jessie Mnguto, a practicing lawyer and a veteran Lion has returned to Dar es Salaam after medical treatment in India. She said in one of her email letters: " I am glad to be back, I feel healthy and this has also been because of your good wishes and prayers."

Lion Jessie Mnguto is also District Convenor for Constitution and by-laws of Sub District 411B (Tanzania and Uganda) and has been past President for Lions Club of Azania.

THE PROGRESSIVE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Mwanza, Tanzania: District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo was very much impressed with the Quality Project of renovating and assisting Maganzo Primary School in Misungvi District, Mwanza. The Lions Club of Mwanza was one of the key players in the rehabilitation project along with help of District Authority of Misungvi.

The school suffered a devastating blow arising from heavy rains and strong wind which disabled the school from all the normal activities.

The entourage of the Governor in the company of District Commissioner of Misungvi Madame Mariam Lugayila and Director Mr. Nathan Mshana and Lion Leaders of Mwanza Club inspected the school and saw the progressive chart of the school.

Seven years ago the school recorded passes of only 17% in the final examinations of completion of standard seven. Last year the school made an almost triple jump by recording a fantastic result of 50% passes in the territorial examination. Standard seven is a jumping board to the secondary education in Tanzania and begins with Form I.

"SURPRISE GIFT FOR GOVERNOR"!

Mwanza, Tanzania: A "pleasant surprise" greeted District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo when he wound-up his club visitations programme at the Lake-side town of Mwanza, the second largest commercial town in Tanzania.

The pleasant surprise came in the form of a "gift" from Lions Club of Mwanza, "twelve new members and three Melvin Jones Fellow". The Governor quipped by openly showing his satisfaction at the best gift at the end of his club visitations tour and warmly congratulated the club for following the Governor's Goals.

Twelve new members mean that the district is going closer to the desired target of 1,250 members which has to be achieved by end of April. The achievement  would turn out to be even a "bigger pleasant surprise" to all the Lions in Sub District 411B in the forthcoming Multiple Annual District Convention in Kisumu, Kenya.

Three new Melvin Jones Fellow means that the Sub District has now 317 MJF with 15 Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

More Information: According to the available statistics of Melvin Jones Fellow in Tanzania, Lions Club of  Dar es Salaam City ranks number one with 73 MJF, followed by L.C. Dar es Salaam Host with 49 MJF and number three position is taken by L.C. of Mwanza with 32 MJF. In Uganda, number one is L.C. Kampala Central 21 MJF and number two is L.C. Kampala Host 16 MJF.

A Quality Project: Governor Wilson Ndesanjo witnessed yet another Quality Project, the renovation and extension of Maganzo Primary School which cost the Mwanza club a big amount of TShs. 26,500,000/ (close to US$ 16500:00) so far. The school was badly affected with heavy rains and strong wind which resulted into a collective effort of the Lions and District Misungi for renovation works.

The progressive assistance included building of two new class rooms, 120 students desks. The school seems to be on the progressive chart in academic achievements...in 2007 there were 17% passes and in 2013 50% passes.

At the school, Lions club of Mwanza Valentine donated school stationary items for 600 pupils. Elsewhere the all-ladies club donated a wheel chair to a person who had suffered heart stroke. They also donated a sewing machine, books and biscuit boxes to Pamoja Youth Centre.
