FOOD DISTRIBUTION FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

LCIF GIVES TSHS. 16,500,000/= TO FLOOD VICTIMS

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: The exercise to distribute more essential food and other basic commodities will continue next Sunday on 1st June to more families who were left out last Sunday. More than sixty Lion Members from seven Dar es Salaam Lion clubs acted in unison to distribute the ration to affected families who were temporarily displaced due to heavy rains recently.

The Lions Clubs International Fund  acted promptly by giving a grant of US $10,000:00 for purchase of relief consumable items to the families staying in Dar es Salaam. More than 650 families appeared to have benefited from this exercise but more food was to be distributed after seven days.

The large contingent of Lions was led by District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo, 1st Vice District Governor (Elect) Lion Haiderali Gangji; Cabinet Secretary Lion Kishore Simzia and many other senior Cabinet and District Officers.

A similar exercise was conducted by Lions of Dar es Salaam when they went to distribute food relief to flood victims in Kilosa District, a couple of months ago just before the advent of seasonal rains two months ago. Just before the peasants and local inhabitants recovered from devastating heavy rains, another spell of yet heavier rains added to the miseries of the affected people.

In Dar es Salaam, the Lions and Red Cross joined hands in providing the relief assistance and some local political leaders assisted in the whole exercise.
