Kampala: The
Reading Action Programme (RAP) was implemented at the Salvation Army in Kampala
for the benefit of disabled young people recently.
Career
guidance and face to face individual or group discussions was organized by
Lions Club of Kampala Central, the newly installed President of the club Lion Dan
Naturinda reported to the Governor’s Blog. The National Library of Uganda was
also involved in this literacy campaign.
The
President said that twenty Lions and Leos participated in the literacy project
and donated text books, pens, pencils and drawing crayons to 50 young disabled
boys and girls at the Salvation Army camp. The Reading Action Programme was
echoed by Immediate Past International President Wayne A Madden who described
in his message about “A Book as the World’s Most Powerful Tool.”
He also
had explained that literacy gives us the tools to take our place in society as
informed and active citizens.
The
Region Chairman for Region “D” in Uganda, Lion Geoffrey Mwesigwa said in his
letter of congratulations to the club that they were doing a great work to the
community and the country as well. He praised the efforts of the President of
the club and all members in spreading the literacy campaign which was the main
goal of the Lions Clubs International under the immediate past International
President, Lion Wayne Madden.
