GOVERNOR VISITS "ACTION PACKED" CLUB

MOSHI, TANZANIA: District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo was kept fully occupied from morning to late night when he visited Lions Club of Moshi Kibo, his last club visitations programme in Kilimanjaro, north of Tanzania.

However, the Governor was deeply impressed after witnessing and participating in the numerous projects conducted by the club in the past and during the current Lionistic Year. The quality and style of the activities clearly enforced the Governor's theme "UNITY IN SERVICE".

The Governor's entourage escorted by Club President Lion Julian Jones, Stalwart of the club and past cabinet secretary Lion Inderjeet S. Rehal visited Rau Primary School where the Governor through the host club, presented books and computers. The consignment was worth TShs. 1,500,000/=. After spending a couple of hours at the school, he was shuttled to Msandaka School for deaf and dumb pupils.

The Lions Msandaka School is the creation of the club a few decades ago with support and help from sevedral local and overseas Lions Clubs and NGOs from Belgium, Sweden and United Kingdom. At Msandaka the Governor opened a block for toilette facilities which was built with financial assistance from Canada and the club also contributed some amount. The structure was built in memory of Past District Governor Lion Msuya who died two years ago in Moshi.

The club undertook the duty of participating in the cremation ceremony of the Late Governor, a fact which impressed the family of Late Msuya. An amount of US$ 3,000:00 was donated to the club for club activities. The block cost TShs. 8,000,000/=.

The Governor was kept busy at the foundation laying ceremony of dormitory for girls at the Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre. The budget estimate for the dormitory is around TShs. 50,000,000/= when completed. At the school, another project, donation of text books, stationary and food ration was given to the school.

With the help of several Lions Clubs in Sweden, working tools for peasants, carpenters, mechanics, kitchen wares were distributed to focal development colleges in Kibosho, Rombo and Handeni. The purpose was to follow the goals of the district governor and international president in reducing extreme poverty by making people self-reliant. In Tanga Region, the club is participating jointly with the Tanga Lions club in paying educational fees for students.

Ten trees were planted at Msandaka Lions Deaf Centre as part of the project to plant at least 2,000 trees in Moshi at a budget of TShs. 4,000,000/=. The fund-raising project to be implemented in January next year.

A banquet in honour of the Governor and the First Lady was held in the evening for all Lions in Moshi, invited guests and their families. At the banquet, representatives from Lions Club of Iganga in Uganda were given a braille type-writer and a special computer with programme for semi-blind users.
