"WORLD DIABETES DAY 14TH NOVEMBER"

Every 14th November, Lions Clubs throughout the world (+ 46,000 clubs) join hands in conducting diabetic camps and create awareness of symptoms of diabetes among the people.

As a matter of fact almost all the 42 clubs in Sub District 411B (Tanzania and Uganda) have made it as a tradition to hold several health checks (including diabetes) more than once every year. It is very obvious  because a majority of the people, especially in rural areas, do not know that people suffering from diabetes are at risk for heart disease, kidney disease, atherosclerosis, nerve damage, infection, blindness and slow healing process of wounds.

Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Host has made a tradition to hold Diabetes Camps on every 14th November at Abass Medical Centre in the heart of the city. A prominent member of the club, Second Vice District Governor Lion Haiderali Gangji stated that the camp will be held on 15th November. The day before ie 14th November coincided with the Islamic Religious Day, 10th of Muharram or Ashura.

As usual, hundreds of people specially adults above the age of 45 flock in to get free medical checkups and medicines and further follow up consultations by a well-known Specialist Dr. Abass.
