WATER FOR THE REMOTE VILLAGE

Mkuranga, Tanzania: Villagers at Zalala in the District of Mkuranga had to go as far as ten kilometers to fetch water, a problem which Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Azania sorted out after providing water to the villagers.

The club members visited the village in the Coast Region, several times,  and after several survey reports they decided to invest TShs. 6,000,000/= or US$ 3,800:00 to provide clean water to the desperate villagers. Within no time, a complete water borehole with pump, generator and a reservoir tank was constructed.

The club leaders invited the District Governor Lion Wilson Ndesanjo to inaugurate the water supply project at the remote village. The Governor, after assessing the nature of the quality project, re-scheduled his time-table of club visitations and participated in the inauguration ceremony. The village has a population of 1,300 people and almost all are small-time peasants.

The club leaders helped the villagers to set-up a committee to manage the water supply system and to ensure that the project is well taken care of. The Governor praised the club leaders for a well-done job and advised the villagers to take maximum care of this project.
