INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR LION ALEXIS V. GOMES ARRIVES

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: The Chief Guest to the Second Cabinet Meeting in Dar es Salaam, International Director Lion Alexis Vincent Gomes arrived in Dar es Salaam in the midnight hours of Wednesday at the J.K. Nyerere International Airport. He was received by Lions Members who included District Governor Lion Wilson N. Ndesanjo.

International Director will officially open the 2nd Cabinet Meeting on Saturday 1st February which will be chaired by Governor Wilson Ndesanjo. The Cabinet Meeting is expected to receive reports from all the Region and Zone Chairpersons covering the meetings and activities of 43 Lions Clubs in Tanzania and Uganda. The Cabinet Meeting will also receive report from the Chairman of the Governors' Council expected to take place today in Dar es Salaam.

The International Director's entourage to be escorted by the Governor and other senior Lion Members, will go to the CCBRT hospital for a familiarization tour of the centre which was supported financially through a grant from Lions Clubs International some years ago. Lions Clubs in Dar es Salaam, numbering seven clubs, usually refer eye-disease patients to the hospital for further management at subsidized fees.

Later in the morning, the entourage will pay a courtesy call at the office of His Lordship, the Mayor of Dar es Salaam. He is expected to address a press conference from Hotel Serena later in the afternoon. A grand banquet in his honour has been arranged at the same hotel on Saturday night. The following day, ID Alexis Gomes is expected to fly to Tunisia to attend the All Africa Forum.

He is one of the active members in the Steering Committee for Africa which is working on forming the Constitutional Area for Africa which will decide on many issues pertaining to Lionism on the Continent of Africa. One of the prior condition is to have a total strength or more than 30,000 Lion Members by next year 2015.

During the ISAAME Forum in Kathmandu, Nepal, Governor Wilson Ndesanjo was decorated with a Silver Medal on behalf of Sub District 411B (Tanzania -Uganda) for bringing more Lion Members during the first six months of his tenure in office as District Governor.
