The large team of nineteen people, ten from Mzizima and 9 from Starkey returned to Dar es Salaam after almost four days of hard work which resulted as a "successful project" held on 27th and 28th September.
A report filed by Mzizima Club Secretary, Lion Bhavin Sonigra indicated that 92 cases of cataract surgeries were registered and were treated in Kigoma and others will be treated at Kabanga Mission and Tabora Hospital. Six hundred patients were screened for various eyes related complaints. Five hundred pair of reading glasses were given free of charge to mostly elderly people with low vision and poor eye sights.
Patients who were checked for minor eye ailments, were provided medicines and according to the report, a sum of TShs. 1,200,000/ worth of medicines were given. Some major and complicated cases were referred to CCBRT, a major hospital in Dar es Salaam which works closely with Lions Eye Camps.
The President of the club, and former Member of Parliament for Kigoma, Lion Azim Premji was part of the team. He donated 100 pairs of reading glasses and also volunteered at the camp.
The report further stated that a total of 1800 people were treated at both the Eyes and ears Camps.
